Book Review: hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

"Suspenseful and quite a page-turner.  I couldn't read put down the book.  I wanted to know more about Patch."

Grrr...I had to stop reading [to get some sleep] since my eyes were so tired from reading nonstop.

At first, I thought it would be light reading which would help me doze off but by the end of chapter 1, I was hooked.  Patch is...Patch is so attractive, while Nora is vulnerable and relatable.

This story sometimes jumps around in their relationship, but I guess it's kind of hard to describe the progression of their understanding of each other.

I got the impression that their attraction to each other is a 'sexual' feeling.  I would have liked to know that their attraction was not just from hormones,[etc] but it was somehow foreshadowed in the book.  The first chapter introduces us to the main characters (Nora Grey, Patch, and Vee Sky) in a Biology class, specifically Human Reproduction.

Throughout the story, there is a sense of foreboding.  There were a couple of times when I got caught up in the story.  If someone heard me while I was reading the book, they might have thought that I was losing my mind since I kept on saying "Watch out, Nora!" and "Patch is THERE!"

My most favorite element in the story is Patch.  I was intrigued by him.  Just as Nora was interested in Patch, I also wanted to know more about him.

All in all, I enjoyed reading Hush Hush.  Although, I have to admit that I will be reading it again just to see if I missed something due to my exuberance with the story.

I'm excited to read the second book, Crescendo.

This is how I spent my Halloween

Countdown to Halloween Reading List...Fanfic #2

I would have liked for Katara to end up with Zuko.  Katara is a waterbender while Zuko is a firebender.  (Water + Fire)

She is mad at the Fire Nation, and consequently Zuko, since they attacked her home and killed her mother.

Based on some episodes of The Last Airbender, I was hoping that Zuko and Katara would eventually have a reconciliation and might even develop a relationship.

Zuko and Katara's story
Katara has lost her mother's necklace and Zuko uses it to track them down.  The tracker even goes on to ask if the necklace is his girlfriend's.

In the Battle in Ba Sing Se, Zuko opens up to Katara about losing his mother which moves Katara to offer to heal his scar.

Unfortunately, Zuko makes the wrong choice and sides with Azula.  Leaving Aang to channel the Avatar state to defeat the two firebenders (Azula and Zuko).

Later on when Zuko has a change of heart and decides to join Aang and the gang, Katara is the last one to accept that he has changed.  Katara feels betrayed by Zuko.  She even goes so far as to state that the only way she would be able to forgive Zuko is if he could bring her mother back.

Zuko later reveals that he might have some information on who killed Katara's mother and he accompanies Katara on her revenge mission.  Although Katara bloodbends the one who killed her mother, in the end she does not kill him.  On the way back to Aang and the others, Zuko praises Katara for her courage in not taking a life.  They eventually reconcile and Katara hugs Zuko.

Sadly, the last season/book disproved my hope.  Zuko ended up with Mai while Katara ended up with Aang.

In line with my wish that Katara ended up with Zuko, I've read Changes by daydreamer11691  .  It's a short fanfic about the evolution of the relationship between Katara and Zuko after Zuko joins Aang and the gang.

Countdown to Halloween...A Fanfic a Day keeps Jack O'Lantern Away

I've read Magic Of the Heart by lattlelady6  to start my Countdown to Halloween.

This fanfic is about the 1986 movie -> Labyrinth which starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.  I started with this fic because I'm interested in JarethXSarah stories.

Magic Of the Heart is about the consequences of Sarah's choice at the end of the Labyrinth movie. It offers a view to fey love and the ties that bind them to each other.

Thoughts on Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth played the title character in this year’s adaptation of the comic book Thor.  His character was described as the God of Thunder and Chris Hemsworth played it well, if I might say so.

Chris Hemsworth managed to portray confidence, sorrow, acceptance, and humility in the character of Thor.  It was like watching a continuum of emotions being played out during the course of the movie.  He made Thor relatable and human.

When I first saw the trailer for Thor, I realized that the actor playing Thor was the same actor who played George Kirk, James T. Kirk’s father, in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009).  Albeit he had a small part in the film, his face seemed very familiar to me and I decided to find out what movie or show I had seen him in before.

I googled Chris Hemsworth to find out more about his filmography.  My gut feeling was confirmed when I remembered what show he was in.  It was in an Australian show called Home and Away which I used to watch a couple of years back.  He played the character of Kyle Hyde, the new principal’s son.

I asked myself why I didn’t continue watching it when I realized that this was the time that I started college and the time constraints made it difficult for me to continue watching the show.  :(

Nonetheless,  I’m happy to know that I can continue watching Chris Hemsworth on the big screen since he will be continuing his role as “Thor” in “The Avengers” (2012) and he has a movie with Kristen Stewart called “Snow White and the Hunstman” (2012) where he plays “The Huntsman”.  I think Snow White and the Huntsman will be a dark adaptation of the children’s story; I will have to check it out too.

I leave you with a quote from Chris Hemsworth about approaching the role of Thor:

“You sort of fill your head with information and research you have.  But on set, it was about making it truthful and finding a way that I could relate to it, like the scenes between fathers and sons and brothers.  You personalize that, and that helps ground the story.  And then I can relate to it and hopefully, an audience can too.”

Thoughts on Tom Hiddleston

I first saw Tom Hiddleston act in Thor (2011) as Loki, Thor’s brother.

I was drawn to his actions, the way his face displayed the emotions that his character went through in the course of the film, the gestures he did (like when his character, Loki, was in the palace with the Warriors Three and Sif and they were talking about Thor’s banishment while Loki was looking at and carefully touching his hand [the hand which the Frost Giant touched] ...and he was looking at it strangely).

I also like the way his voice changed throughout the movie, from silkily suggesting to Thor to go against Odin’s command, to pleading to Odin regarding his actions (“I could have done it! For you, for all of us..!”)

Anyway, I researched on Tom Hiddleston to know more about this actor and I came across lots of articles about him.  It turns out that Mr. Hiddleston and Mr. Kenneth Branagh (the director of the film, Thor) previously worked together in a show called Wallander.  Tom Hiddleston played Kenneth Branagh’s sidekick, Magnus.  I checked out the synopsis for the show since I am not able to watch it where I am.  I don’t have access to PBS.

I guess this picture sums up my feeling of not being able to watch it. O_o
